Why Indian outbound tourist are important?

The Indian outbound travel market is growing steadily, over past few years. This steady growth was seen as a result of increased spending capacity of the middle class or the middle income group. Foreign travel, seems to be the order of the day and in upper social-circles it is like a fashion.

With more than 1.3 billion inhabitants and GDP increasing by more than 8% every year on average, the country offers enormous potential for future growth in outbound travel.

International tourism departures from India had grown from 3.7 million in 1997 to 9.8 million in 2007 and global tourism expenditures have increased from US$ 1.3 billion in 1997 to US$ 8.2 billion in 2008 and over 12 million in 2010 and crossed 20 million in 2015.

India’s outbound tourists spending isĀ over $16 billion USD yearly. A recent study shows around 50 million Indians will travel abroad by year 2020.
